Phage Refinery has received a grant from the National Science Foundation. This Phase I STTR grant provides funds to accelerate the transfer of our licensed technology from UTHSCSA laboratories to operations within our New Venture Incubator space at UT San Antonio. This in turn provides the resources needed to isolate and qualify hundreds of environmental bacteriophages using our persistence criteria, as well as prototyping a fast and cost-effective means of qualifying any therapy-candidate phage via statistical models based on observable properties without the expense, complexity, and time incurred using early-stage animal models. Lastly, Phase I funding enables the opportunity in six to 24 months to apply for a much larger Phase II grant to continue and expand this commercialization effort.
